Project Warrior Pride is a community fundraising campaign to renovate the weight room at Fairview High School. A new training facility is desperately needed for our young adults whether or not they participate in a sport. At its core, this project is a collaborative effort of alumni, parents, students, our community, and our local businesses to restore the traditions of FHS, specifically the winning spirit FHS has always had and needs to believe in again.
The current weight room at Fairview High School is outdated, non-user friendly, and unsafe for our students. The available equipment is as old as 40 years in some cases, and is rusty with torn upholstery in nearly every case. The majority of Dumbbells, which range from 70 lbs. to 120 lbs., are heavier that most kids can lift. The flooring is spotty and inconsistent, making it unsafe for group fitness. None of the equipment is adjustable to adapt to the gender and size variations of our students. The facility is more akin to a workout space in someone’s basement rather than a facility the caliber of which our students deserve and need.
UNITED TOGETHER WE CAN…
It’s been 35 years but I still remember that tagline from my time as a student at Fairview High School. That phrase was more than just words, it was the standard. We did it together as we were proud to be Fairview Warriors. We were respectable in every sport. We trained year round to ensure we were in tip-top shape when it came time to perform on the field. Some of the fondest memories I have from my time at FHS were training with the other athletes on the swim team, boys and girls basketball teams, volleyballers, and even friends who were not athletes but just wanted to get in shape.
The FHS weight room was a key component of those memories. The weight room looked ‘new’ 35 years ago. Today, that facility is essentially unchanged and looks outdated and unsafe. Fitness and weight rooms have come a long way since my time as a student. Schools all around Fairview Park have new weight rooms. Schools all around Fairview Park have also experienced improvements in their sports programs as a result of the investment in new weight rooms and fitness equipment. Why not us? Why haven’t we followed suit? I don’t know, but what I do know is the time to take action is now.
I have witnessed a positive shift in the Fairview Park City School District in recent years. I have seen that Warrior spirit and pride of old blossom in our administration, teachers, and coaches. These are the people that will keep kids at Fairview instead of being recruited by local private schools. They want to teach, coach, and WIN! They want to do everything in their power to better our school and its sports and fitness programs. But to do that, they need the right tools to educate and encourage. That’s why I am leading this cause. That’s why the weight room we are remodeling at FHS will be state of the art. It will be the best because our kids deserve the best. We will give them the tools to go toe-to-toe with our rivals and be victorious.
Please join me in donating to this exciting campaign. The investment that you make today will have lasting, positive consequences for many years to come. Through your generosity you will become a part of history at Fairview High School.
